Fågelnästet

Index built an entirely new residential area in central Norrtälje – on the roof of the Pelikanen office building – with 18 tenant-owned townhouses on top of a fairly ordinary two-storey building. The townhouses were inspired by the urban environment in which they were built. Taking the urban setting into account resulted not only in pleasant homes that give the sensation of being detached houses right in the middle of the city, it is also a new and unique architectural expression. An ordinary building was transformed through creativity, knowledge and passion into Fågelnästet – a unique gem right in the heart of Norrtälje. This type of construction is known as three-dimensional property formation, which is particularly effective in densely built-up areas. The townhouses in Fågelnästet are retracted from the base of the existing building’s roof, and they have large wooden dormer and bay windows. Being built in this manner clearly distinguishes the new part from the old, at the same time that the original architectural concept is preserved and respected. Fågelnästet was designed by the Olle Rex Arkitektbyrå architectural firm, and it was ready for occupancy at the beginning of 2007.
