The first harbour tower going up in Norrtälje

The first building permit has been submitted, and soon construction and sales of the new apartments in Norrtälje Harbour will begin. Index Residence has acquired the land from Lantmännen and is planning to build approximately 500 condominium apartments in stages, with the sale of the first units starting in August 2016.

The new Norrtälje Torn consists of two 16-storey towers that will replace the two silos that previously stood here. The first tower going up is called “Soltornet” and will be built on the land where the “green silo” used to stand. The building will include 87 apartments in total, and the height of the building will be 54 metres – the same as the old silo.

“The apartments will range from two to four rooms with open floor plans and spacious kitchens,” says Daniel Åkerman, the marketing director at Index Residence. “There will be lots of natural daylight pouring through big windows, and they will have generous balconies to enjoy with family and friends. Final prices have not been decided, but the higher the floor, the higher the price.”

Index Residence is currently awaiting the validity of the zoning, which will be decided by the local building authorities on June 20, 2016. Assuming everything goes according to plan, the start of construction is scheduled for January 2017, which means that Soltornet will be ready for its first residents at the end of 2018. The interest in the new development is already considerable. More than 1,000 potential buyers have signed up on the Index homepage.

“This is a completely new neighbourhood that is in the middle of town, but still right next to the boardwalk, the water and the park,” Daniel says. “That’s where the attraction is.” The local authorities have been welcoming new development in Norrtälje Harbour.

“The new residential building will help to establish this as a new and lively neighbourhood,” says Roger Gustafsson, who is responsible for the project at Norrtälje Kommun.
